The 57th Hof International Film Festival in Germany will host one short and one feature films from Iran’s cinema.
Iranian feature film “Cause of Death: Unknown” directed by Ali Zarnegar will vie at the main competition section of the festival and Iranian short film “21 Weeks Later” by Nasrim Mohammadpour will be screened at the short film section of the event.
“In the middle of the night, a minibus with seven people on board is traveling from Shahdad to Kerman. Suddenly it becomes apparent that one of the passengers is dead, and the problems begin. At this hour, before sunrise, they won’t be able to find a doctor to certify the death. But without a doctor’s death certificate, no ambulance will take the dead body. So what now? Just as the group decides to go to the police, they unexpectedly discover that the dead man has a large amount of cash hidden under his shirt! The question of how to proceed now divides the minds, and tensions and mutual distrust arise, until finally everyone is convinced that they should divide the money fairly among themselves and bury the deceased man,” according to the plot summary of “Cause of Death: Unknown”.
Banipal Shoomoon, Alireza Sani Far, Neda Jebraeili, Ali Mohammad Radmanesh, Zakieh Behbahani, Reza Amouzad, Soheil Bavi, Saeed Rezaeikia, Milad Moradi, Ahmad Dehghanrahimi, Mansour Ghanijahed, Mohammadreza Hosseinian, Ashkan Ashoori, Mojtaba Mirhosseini, and Sahar Babaei are among the cast members of the film.
“A determined young woman decides to have an abortion, asserting her right as a woman to control her own reproductive decisions and the timing of her pregnancies. She remains steadfast in her decision despite her husband’s disagreement and the threats he makes. Twenty-one weeks into her pregnancy, she gets an illegal abortion. Haunted by a profound sense of guilt, she embarks on a poignant journey to find a suitable resting place for her fetus. However, this journey takes an unexpected and heartbreaking turn when her handbag, containing the precious remains, is stolen,” according to the plot summary of “21 Weeks Later”.
Banafsheh Riazi, Leila Hosseinzadeh, Sudabeh Bahramnejad, and Parisa Asgari are among the cast members of the film.
The 57th Hof International Film Festival began 24 October and will run through 29 October 2023 in the Central Kino and the Scala Kino in Hof.
